Week 24

BabyCenter Says at Week 24...
How your baby's growing:
Your baby's growing steadily, having gained about 4 ounces since last week. That puts baby at just over a pound. Since baby's almost a foot long (picture an ear of corn), that cuts a pretty lean figure at this point, but the body is filling out proportionally and it'll soon start to plump up. The brain is also growing quickly now, and the taste buds are continuing to develop. The lungs are developing "branches" of the respiratory "tree" as well as cells that produce surfactant, a substance that will help the air sacs inflate once baby hits the outside world. The skin is still thin and translucent, but that will start to change soon.

Feeling HUGE

So far in this 2nd trimester the overwhelming feeling is that of being huge. I feel like such a cow and I have only gained 11 pounds. Everything feels stretched and tight. I am waddling and big. I am not looking forward to the last trimester, when I will grow the most...I am going to be huge!!

My Appointment

Today I had yet another appointment for baby #2. It was your typical appointment...wait, weigh-in, pee in cup, blood pressure, measure, "any questions?", "see you in 4 weeks". The only change is that next appointment I will be doing the glucose testing. Sorry there isn't much to report, but this is the boring part of pregnancy.

Week 23

What BabyCenter says this week:
How your baby's growing:
Turn on the radio and sway to the music. With baby's sense of movement well developed by now, your baby can feel you dance. And now that baby's more than 11 inches long and weighs just over a pound (about as much as a large mango), you may be able to see the squirms underneath your clothes. Blood vessels in the lungs are developing to prepare for breathing, and the sounds that your baby's increasingly keen ears pick up are preparing for entry into the outside world. Loud noises that become familiar now — such as your dog barking or the roar of the vacuum cleaner — probably won't faze the baby when they are heard outside the womb.

Week 22

BabyCenter says this week:
At 11 inches (the length of a spaghetti squash) and almost 1 pound, your baby is starting to look like a miniature newborn. The lips, eyelids, and eyebrows are becoming more distinct, and baby's even developing tiny tooth buds beneath the gums. The eyes have formed, but the irises (the colored part of the eye) still lack pigment. If you could see inside your womb, you'd be able to spot the fine hair (lanugo) that covers the body and the deep wrinkles on the skin, which baby will sport until a padding of fat is added to fill them in. Inside the belly, the pancreas — essential for the production of some important hormones — is developing steadily.

Week 21

Here is what BabyCenter says about Baby Reeves this week:
How your baby's growing:
Your baby now weighs about three-quarters of a pound and is approximately 10 1/2 inches long — the length of a carrot. You may soon feel like the baby is practicing martial arts as the initial fluttering movements turn into full-fledged kicks and nudges. You may also discover a pattern to the activity as you get to know baby better. In other developments, your baby's eyebrows and lids are present now.

Here they are!!

I finally got the sonograms scanned and here they are:

Here is Baby Reeves' profile ~

Here is Baby Reeves' little tiny foot ~

And my favorite...Baby Reeves looking right at us and smiling!

Even though we were assured there is nothing to see in these ultrasounds, just for safety sake, to make sure nobody knows the sex of the baby to let it slip to us...I have blurred the areas that could reveal this information. I hope you enjoy the images.

Remember to take my baby poll. And in case you missed my very first ultrasound image back on July 8, here it is:

I know...I know....

My appointments were a week ago and still no photos....In my typical pregnancy fashion I keep forgetting. I promise they will be up soon!

In the meantime...The doctor says that all is good and the baby is growing just fine. We were lucky and avoided finding out what the baby is (other than healthy). Yeah! I hope that continues, we really want to be surprised...

Week 20

Here is what BabyCenter says about baby Reeves this week...

How your baby's growing:
Your baby weighs about 10 1/2 ounces now. Baby's also around 6 1/2 inches long from head to bottom and about 10 inches from head to heel — the length of a banana. (For the first 20 weeks, when a baby's legs are curled up against the torso and hard to measure, measurements are taken from the top of his head to his bottom — the "crown to rump" measurement. After 20 weeks, baby's measured from head to toe.)

Baby's swallowing more these days, which is good practice for the digestive system. Baby's also producing meconium, a black, sticky by-product of digestion. This gooey substance will accumulate in the bowels, and you'll see it in the first soiled diaper (some babies pass meconium in the womb or during delivery).
